Competing in only the third decathlon of his career, Delhi’s Tejaswin Shankar not only won gold at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships but also crossed the Asian Games qualifying mark. The 24-year-old athlete scored 7576 points in the 10-event decathlon, bettering the qualifying mark of 7500.

In the seven events of the women’s heptathlon, Madhya Pradesh’s Swapna Barman also won the gold with a score of 5918 and also achieved the qualifying mark (5654). Andhra Pradesh’s Jyoti Yaraji, who won gold in 100m, also won the 100m hurdles title with a timing of 12.92 seconds. Also crossed the qualifying mark (13.63). Meanwhile, Karnataka’s triple jumper Akhilesh broke his leg while taking a jump. He was taken to the hospital.
