Hosted by UP, the third Khelo India University Games will be inaugurated at BBD University premises on Thursday. PM Modi will announce the launch of this event by being virtually present. More than four thousand players from 200 universities from across the country will fight for 1900 medals in 21 sports in this Khel Mahakumbh which will continue till June 3. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Anurag Thakur will be special guests on the occasion.

The opening ceremony will start at 6.50 pm. During the 70-minute long ceremony where the National Anthem will be performed by the band of the Indian Army. The torch will be lit in the sequel. Following this, Jitu, the mascot of the Games, inspired by the state animal reindeer, will also be an integral part of the celebrations. The event will conclude with a special performance by renowned singer Kailash Kher. Let us inform that the group league of Kabaddi has started in the men’s and women’s category from May 23 at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik (SVSP) Stadium in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

The preliminary rounds and group matches of seven other sports Football, Rugby, Tennis, Table Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball and Malkhamb have already started at three venues in Lucknow on May 24. The games will be organized in four cities of the state, Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Noida. Apart from this, shooting will also be organized at Delhi’s Karni Singh Shooting Range. Manu Bhaker, Hriday Hazarika, Mehuli Ghosh, Arjun Babuta and Sift Kaur Samra in Shooting, Diya Chitale and Ananya Basak in Table Tennis, S.K. Sahil, Anish Gowda in swimming, Malavika Bansod in badminton, Yash Ghangas in judo and Anshu Malik and Sagar Jaglan in wrestling, among others.
