Poco C51: Price in India
Poco C51 has been launched only in 4GB RAM and 64GB storage configuration, which has been priced at Rs 7,999. It has been introduced in two color options namely Power Black and Royal Blue, out of which we had the Royal Blue color variant for review.
Poco C51: Design and display
It is often the case with entry-level segment devices that their designs are very simple and there is not much power to be seen in the build quality, but this is not the case with the Poco C51. The smartphone comes with better design, grip and build quality than its rivals. It has a polycarbonate back panel, which has a grainy texture. I had a good experience holding it in my hand for a long time. It offers good grip and the weight is distributed in such a way that it does not feel heavy in the hand, even though it weighs 192 grams.
A small camera module is available at the back, which includes dual camera setup and an LED flash. The module has negligible bulge. At the same time, Waterdrop style notch has been given in the front. Being an entry-level smartphone, you will also get to see thick bezels all around. The volume and lock/unlock/power buttons are fitted on the right side of the frame. The phone is relatively large, due to which you may have to struggle a bit to reach the volume buttons while using the phone with one hand. The fingerprint sensor is fitted at the top center of the back and is easy to reach. The bottom has a microUSB port along with a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the top of the frame includes a single speaker, which is quite loud. On the left side is the SIM slot, which supports two SIMs as well as a microSD card. Overall, the design of the Poco C51 is good for being an entry-level smartphone.
On the other hand, talking about the display, the Poco C51 has a 6.52-inch IPS LCD display, which is equipped with standard refresh rate and HD + resolution. The display is not very crisp, but the quality is above average. The colors appear a bit dull in this and you do not even get the option to adjust them. Its peak brightness is 400nits, which may be low on paper, but I had no problem viewing content even in direct sunlight. Overall, the display quality is above average for the price.
Poco C51: Performance
Poco C51 gets MediaTek Helio G36 SoC and has been launched in a single 4GB RAM variant. The company has given Android 13 Go Edition in the smartphone, which is a lite version of Android 13 in a way. I expected the chipset to work smoother with the Lite Android version, but that was not the case with my unit. Even with the first boot, I found the phone to be very slow even in the normal usete. App loading times were high and there was a lag in transitions. Being an entry-level device, it was not fair to expect much from the benchmark scores, but still I tested it in AnTuTu and GFXBench. The device achieved a score of 101,771 in the AnTuTu benchmark, which according to the platform was not normal. At the same time, the phone achieved 338 frames in GFXBench’s Car Chase test, 865.9 frames in Manhattan 3.1 and 1,642 frames in T-Rex.
As far as gaming is concerned, with this hardware it is not fair to expect a phone to perform well in graphics demanding games like Call of Duty: Mobile or Genshin Impact, but still, the phone should be able to run Call of Duty: Mobile. Was able However, load times were very long and there were occasional minor lags during gaming even at the lowest graphics settings. But, the experience of games like Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga, Shadow Fight 4 was smooth on the smartphone.
Poco C51: Battery and software
Poco C51 has a 5,000mAh battery, which supports 10W charging. The device can comfortably get around 2 days with some social media scrolling, some instant messaging and calling and a few hours of media streaming. In our HD video loop test, the phone lasted around 15 hours and 13 minutes on a full charge, which is above average. However, with 10W charging, you will have to wait for hours for it to fully charge. I found that the phone charged 0-21 percent in 30 minutes and 0-100 percent in 2 hours 40 minutes.
On boot, I got Android 13 Go Edition on the device and at the time of writing the review, I received the March 2023 Android security patch update which is two months old. The Poco C51 offers a clean experience with the Go Edition. There were some pre-loaded apps in it, which can be removed. However, if you are looking for tons of customization options, you will not find them here at all. There are only useful options in the settings and in the notification bar also you get some important options in the form of big buttons, which you can replace or even add new options to the panel. Surely it is good for old people. Overall, I found the software on the C51 to be a lot better than the mid-range and premium Poco smartphones.
Poco C51: Camera
The Poco C51 gets a dual rear camera setup, which includes an 8-megapixel main camera and a VGA depth sensor. The main camera works well in good light. Many times color dulls come in some shots and also the pictures came overexposed. HDR performance was also not consistent. In some pictures, the background was exposed too much. However, most of the photos were postable on social media without editing. The name of the depth sensor works. In portrait mode, either the images had negligible Bokeh effect, or the background was overexposed. The background was blurred in some pictures, but it looked quite artificial.

The selfie camera is 5-megapixels, which captures decent pictures in daylight in both photo and portrait modes. However, poor edge detection doesn’t blur the background well in portrait mode. At the same time, like the rear main sensor, the front camera also struggles a lot in low-light. There was lag in the viewfinder in low light and images were quite noisy with a lack of detail.
At the same time, video performance was also average. Whether it was daylight, indoor or low-light, videos in all conditions were slightly blurry and lacked details. Both the rear and front cameras support recording up to 1080p at 30fps. The phone comes with timelapse and short video feature.
