Maharashtra Ironmen remained on top of the points table in the Premier Handball League being held for the first time after winning five matches in a row. This team has reached the semi-finals. Head coach Sunil Gehlawat is really impressed with the fine performance of his players and has heaped praise on them.
Coach Gehlawat said that training with gumballs (a type of handball used in international events) in proper facilities before the start of the tournament has had a positive impact on the players’ performance.
Sunil Gahlawat said, “Our camp before the start of the tournament was very important for us. The kind of facilities we have in Maharashtra Ironmen, our players usually do not train with gumballs in such facilities. They gave it their all during the tournament and it helped them to get into the rhythm ahead of the tournament. We haven’t lost a single match, which tells the story of the quality of this team. Every player wants to give his best for the team and give I hope we will continue this performance in the coming matches.
After stellar performances in the league, several Ironman players from Maharashtra are confident of making it into the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou in September-October. The coach is also confident that many players in the team will be able to represent India in the Asian Games.
Gehlawat said, “The league has been like a camp just before the trials for the Asian Games and I am sure that many of our players will be successful in representing India because they are capable of doing so. Many of our players are already Indian players.” Handball team and I think there will be some new names to join who will get a chance to fulfill their dream this year.Our players have lot of quality and they will look to prove themselves at the big stage. ”
