iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max First Impressions: Big Changes, But at a Big Price!

Apple’s brand new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have been launched and Gadgets 360 is eyeing Apple Park in Cupertino to bring you the first look of these devices. After the launch of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, all the rumors and speculations have come to an end. It’s also interesting because the devices I have with me aren’t what I was expecting—or maybe it’s a big hit. Apart from the new dynamic island front camera design, there’s a lot to talk about. If you’ve always loved having the latest and greatest iPhone or were waiting for an upgrade, keep reading.

iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max Price in India

As a result of the strengthening of the US dollar, Apple’s new Pro phones are more expensive in India than their earlier models. Whereas in America their price has not made much difference. iPhone 14 Pro The price starts from Rs 1 lakh 29 thousand 900 for the 128GB variant. iPhone 14 Pro with 256GB variant comes for Rs 1 lakh 39 thousand 900. The 512GB variant comes for Rs 1 lakh 59 thousand 900 and the 1TB variant comes for Rs 1 lakh 79 thousand 900. bigger models iPhone 14 Pro Max If we go towards it, then its price is 10 thousand rupees more at every level. In this way, the 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB variants of iPhone 14 Pro Max are priced at Rs 1,39,900, Rs 1,49,900, Rs 1,69,900 and Rs 1,89,900 respectively. It is still not clear why this difference between the prices of iPhone and iPhone Pro in India is so much compared to other markets. Apple should use the same multiplier for its products, but it is not.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have been officially discontinued, but should be made available at a discounted price by third party retailers for the time being.

iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max “Dynamic Island”

So, the rumors about the Apple iPhone 14 series so far have turned out to be true. But what was revealed was only a small part of the whole story. The point here is a reminder that we shouldn’t jump on anything just based on leaks. Also, here it is also seen how technology can surprise us. I think Apple must have been thrilled to know how it can surprise people. And as a spokesperson said, it’s Apple’s special dedication to design hardware and software to make things this way possible.

Several leaks and renders in the past few months have made it clear that Apple is now going to switch to a pill and hole camera cutout design. It sounded odd, but it wasn’t hard to imagine that Apple was just trying to do something different. It’s the same company that gave us the notch idea, tried unsuccessfully to introduce the Touch Bar, and once convinced itself that a buttonless and screenless iPod was a good idea.

The latest leaks were largely heading in the right direction before the phone surfaced. The cutout given at the top in the front has an empty space between the pill and the hole. But it is not visible to the users because this hole has been expanded with the help of software, so that you can see a black patch. It is integrated with a user interface that provides notifications and status indicators, and is also interactive. Apple has worked on various animations and transitions in it, so that this strange looking patch becomes very useful.

I’m glad full screen video won’t play around these two holes. I would have had trouble with even a single hole here. I’m excited to see how Apple uses its hardware and software prowess to make this a useful UI element. The active display area expands into a popup notification popup when needed, otherwise it keeps showing things like small album art work while music is playing, charging, or a payment indicator, etc. Apps can use this area to display ongoing activity. You can see two activities in it at a time – the other activity appears in a small circular bubble on the right side of the island. Here I agree with Apple, which turns out to be the original pill and hole arrangement told by leakers.

Overall, it is undoubtedly a nice improvement over the notch, and makes the premium iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feel fresher. It distracts while watching full screen videos but now we have to get used to it. In short, it seems that the camera obstructs the display area. No part of the island is a dead zone for Touch, meaning the island doesn’t interfere with swiping and Touch does its job no matter where your finger is on the island.

Design of iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max

This year Apple has used deep purple color as its signature color which is quite deep. The color is quite dark and de-saturated making it look gray with a slight tint. Other options are available in Space Black, Silver and Gold colors. The frames of both the smartphones are made of polished stainless steel. The iPhone 14 Pro weighs in at 206 grams, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max comes in much heavier, weighing 240 grams.

Looking at the shape and proportion of the phone, not much has changed since the iPhone 12 Pro series. The phone has a flat back and surrounds – the MagSafe accessory ecosystem makes Apple a bit constrained here. The camera module given in the rear has become a bit bigger, so the back cover of last year’s phone will not work here. If you’re in the US, you’ll find that the phone is missing a SIM tray – a goal Apple is working on, but it has its disadvantages, and India has been kept out of it for now.

A Lightning port is given at the bottom. Rumors say that Apple will switch to USB Type-C from next year. It will be legally required in many countries, but it is important to have it anyway.

iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max Display and Specifications

Dynamic Island has been given exclusively for Pro handsets because the company can take advantage of the price for the display technology it has. The Super Retina XDR display has now become a bit bigger and the borders have become thinner. Apple claims a peak brightness of 1600 nits for HDR, and these panels are rated to deliver up to 2000 nits of brightness outdoors. The refresh rate can go down to 1Hz to save power.

Always on display has been given for the first time in iPhones and this is a big change. It is delivered in Apple’s own fashion and has a unique visual style. Instead of simply displaying simple graphics or plain text on a black background like on Android phones, it’s just provided as your iPhone’s lockscreen, but in a dimly lit form. With the help of machine learning, the brightness is reduced according to the wallpaper image but the details remain. The widgets on the lockscreen are also constantly visible.

Apple claims a battery life of 29 hours with the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 23 hours with the iPhone 14 Pro. The new A16 Bionic SoC has been given with the improvements. It has 16 billion transistors and is made using the 4nm manufacturing process. The company boasts of the highest power and efficiency in the industry with 6 CPU cores, 5 GPU cores, 16 Neural Engine cores and many other subsystems.

iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max Cameras

Improvements have also been made in the camera department. The primary camera is 48 megapixels and quad pixel binning has been used for the first time. Apple has claimed that the sensor in the new iPhone is 65 percent larger than the iPhone 13 Pro. In most cases, the camera has been optimized to capture light, with four pixels combined to make a 12-megapixel photo click. Low-light quality is also said to be 2 times better. Subject blur motion will remain in sharp focus even in the background, it is said. On the other hand, you can also optimize the pixels individually, providing more creative options for shooting and editing. The company has also given a new 2X zoom option which can crop a 48 megapixel image and convert it to a 12 megapixel high detail image. 48-megapixel ProRAW photos can also be taken from the phone. A new option has been given in the Action Mode in the video feature, which gives stability to the video by cropping it as it was shot with a gimbal.

The phone has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with more focus pixels for macro photos and low-light shots can also be captured better. Autofocus has been given for the first time in the front camera and f/1.9 aperture has been used for better low light shots. The 9-LED flash at the rear is adaptive with intelligent pattern and intensity adjustment features. We’ll see how they all work while reviewing.

Other new features include crash detection and satellite-based emergency messaging (for the time being only in the US and Canada). iOS 16 has been given in iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max which has some new capabilities.

The new Pro phones look fresh enough to inspire people to upgrade. This time around, the difference between these and their non-pro version handsets is by far the biggest difference. However, their high prices will keep them out of reach of many buyers. To decide whether you should go for this upgrade or not, be sure to check out the full review of Gadgets 360, which is coming very soon.
