World number one female tennis player and defending champion Inga Swiatek of Poland defeated 80th ranked China’s Wang 6-0, 6-0 in just 51 minutes to make it to the last-16 players of the French Open tennis. In other women’s matches, defending runner-up Coco Gauff of America came back from a set down to beat Mira Andreeva of Russia 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 to reach the fourth round. In the men’s section, sixth seed Dane Holger Rune of Denmark advanced to the fourth round with a 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 win over Argentine qualifier Genaro Alberto. The 20-year-old Rune, who reached the quarter-finals here last year, won on the fourth match point. Casper Rudd of Norway defeated Zhang Zhizhen of China 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 in the third round.

10th win in a row

Poland’s Inga was also the champion at the French Open in 2020, her tenth consecutive win at Roland Garros. Top seed Swiatek needs to reach at least the quarter-finals to retain his number one spot. Swiatek will face the winner of the match between 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andiescu and Lesia Tsurenko in the fourth round. Iga won a Grand Slam match for the first time without losing a game. This is the fourth time at Roland Garros that a player has won without losing a single game in the women’s section. The last time this happened was in 2017 when Caroline Wozniacki defeated Francois Abanda in a one-sided fashion. Earlier Wang Qiang (1st round, 2016) and Maria Sharapova (3rd round, 2014) have done so.

Earlier, Swiatek had won the first two matches 6-4, 6-0. She had no trouble against the Chinese number five player. She hit 21 winners while Wang, playing in the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time, could only hit three. Wang has played three matches against top-10 ranked players and has lost each time.

In the other third round match, 19-year-old Coco of America had an early struggle against 16-year-old Andreeva of Russia. Sixth seed Coco came from a set down to win in two hours and three minutes. Coco has reached the second week of a Grand Slam for the 8th time. In Paris, he has done this for the third time in a row. Andreeva won the first set against a player ranked in the top ten for the first time. He is 22-3 this year. In April, she was ranked 312 in the women’s tennis rankings, rising to 143 and now she can break into the top 100. He defeated two players ranked in the top 20 in the Madd Open.

I had chances in the first set, which I missed but executed my plans in the second and third sets. Andreeva is very young and has a bright future.Coco Gauff

Unwell Rybakina withdraws from French Open

Defending Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina pulled out of her second Grand Slam of the year due to illness ahead of her third round match. The fourth-seeded player said she had fever and was having trouble breathing. She has not been able to sleep properly since two nights and in such a situation she will not be able to perform 100 percent. Rybakina won the first two matches in straight sets. Last week she was successful in winning the Italian Open. Born in Russia, Rybakina has been playing for Kazakhstan since 2018. Her withdrawal took 26-year-old Sorribes Tormo to the fourth round.
