Worried about battery life, try these 8 easy ways

Today, most smartphones come with high-resolution large displays, powerful processors and more memory. Their purpose is to multi-tasking and to complete difficult tasks easily. However, this also means that in such a situation, the battery of the phone will have trouble to last the whole day and for this reason power banks have become a compulsion.

The same can be said about laptops as well. As its battery gets older, the need to use the power plug more frequently will also increase. Most of the electronics devices we use come with Lithium Ion and Lithium Poly batteries. They come equipped with a quick charge feature but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you get a long battery life. Keeping the lifespan of the battery in mind, upgrading a laptop is better than replacing the battery.

Whether you use a smartphone, tablet or laptop. These tips will help you extend the battery life of your device.

1) Keep the temperature in mind
Using the battery in high temperatures can be even more irritating than cycling it. Battery University It is said that high temperature and increasing age gradually reduce the performance of the battery. Using the device in low temperatures (above 30 °C is considered high) will improve its life cycle. Testing has found that after using the battery for three months in 60 degree temperature, the performance reaches up to 60 percent and in 40 degree temperature at 65 percent. Try to protect your device from the heat, for example, do not make the mistake of leaving your mobile on the dashboard of the car in the scorching heat.

It is only fair to be worried about the problem of overheating of the smartphone, as the battery life becomes very weak with the passage of time. In the laptop, make sure that you are using a cooling pad, so that the hot air can easily escape from the CPU vent. Due to dust, the vent of the laptop often gets clogged, due to which the fans made in it had to work more, gradually it also works to increase the cost for you. So keep it clean, especially remove the dust.

2) Avoid free apps, start buying apps
Apps that come with ads can reduce your device’s battery life by 2.5 to 2.1 hours on average. claims that some American researchers done by. According to the study, the processor of the phone is like its brain. Advertising also uses parts of this brain, due to which it slows down.

It is not that all the free apps are affecting your battery, but if you see any advertisement on it, then understand that it will affect the bandwidth and processor. You will get many benefits when you pay for the apps. That too when in today’s date many apps are available for just 10 rupees.

To edit text on a laptop, it would be better to use the application present in the system. Doing so will consume much less battery than using the browser. If you are not using the Internet, then turn off the Wi-Fi connection. On Windows PC all you need to do is press “Fn+F2” on the keyboard. By the way, this command also depends on the device manufacturer. In this case, you can also use the Wi-Fi icon made on the device.

3) Turn off location tracking
A recent report has claimed that the Facebook app drains the iPhone’s battery quickly as it keeps on using the GPS module to keep track of the user’s location. In such a situation, turning off location tracking of apps that do not need your location will definitely help.

On most Android devices, you can turn off location tracking completely by going to Location followed by Settings. By the way, the option to set this at the app level is currently only given in Android Marshmallow.

In iOS 9, go to Settings, then choose Privacy, and then Location Services. After that you can disable it according to each app. Keep location access on for only those apps that need them.

4) A little charge is better than a full charge
A great suggestion given by Battery University can be understood with the example of a marathon. It is better to let the battery discharge to 50% than to take the battery straight from 100% to zero. Maintain an order of between 30 and 80 percent. Doing so will increase your battery’s discharge cycle by three times.

Lenovo uses this principle in battery maintenance settings. You can also customize it according to your needs. To make the battery usable for many years, Lenovo recommends that you set a charging pattern starting at 40 per cent and off at 50 per cent.

5) Lower the brightness of the display
This suggestion applies to laptops and mobile devices. In most devices, you can easily use the brightness settings or reduce the screen brightness with third-party apps like Lux. Apart from reducing the brightness of the display, it also changes the color cast of the screen. However, power can be saved on OLED screens only through a software layer, whereas in LCD this will require lowering the backlight brightness.

You can also save a little battery by reducing how long your display stays on when the device is inactive. On Android, you can set this up by going to Display followed by Settings. In iOS, you can change the setting according to your convenience by going to Settings followed by General followed by Auto-Lock.

In Windows laptops, right-click on the battery icon, then on Power Options. After that change the setting to Power saver. Windows will then automatically reduce the brightness. Apart from this, priority will be given to standby and other settings according to the performance of the battery.

6) Update apps over Wi-Fi or while charging the battery
Typically any action that puts pressure on the processor or bandwidth will take up more CPU power. It would be best if this action is generally static and uses Wi-Fi instead of mobile data internet. In such a situation, the best decision would be to schedule your app updates only on Wi-Fi. If the option is available in your device, then you can only schedule it while charging.

appupdate wifi

You can access this setting in the Play Store app on Android. Launch the app. Open the menu by swapping from the left side of the screen. Then go to Settings, then Auto-update apps. After that select Wi-Fi only mode. On iPhone or iPad, go to Wi-Fi+Cellular in Settings, then iTunes & App Store. After that turn off Use Cellular Data.

7) Turn on Low Power Mode
Battery saver mode is not present in all Android phones. If you are using Android 5.0 or later, then this mode is more likely to be present on your device. It automatically activates as soon as your phone’s battery reaches 15 percent. It turns off background app refresh, location tracking, and sync activity to save battery life. Android Marshmallow comes with Dose feature. If you do not use your phone for a long time, then this feature sends your phone to deep slow mode. This feature doubles the standby time. If you are using an older version of Android phone then you will not get this feature.

The iOS 9-equipped iPhone also comes with a low power mode that turns off background refresh, visual effects, and automatic downloads. You can access this feature by going to Battery Options from Settings.

If you are using an old Android phone, then it is possible that the manufacturer has given its low power mode on your phone. For example, on Sony phones it is known as Stamina Mode and on HTC as Extreme Power Mode. By the way, you can also use many third-party apps. However, our experience shows that built-in apps work better.

8) Use Flight Mode
If your phone is not near the cellular tower then it will affect the standby time as well. If you are in a place where there is no network then it is better to activate the Airplane Mode (Flight Mode) in the phone. Your phone will frequently search for networks in such places which will affect the battery life.

By following these tips, you will find that your phone is offering much better battery life than before. Do let us know through the comment box if you have any suggestions to improve battery life.
