The prize money of Wimbledon, which is going to start in the first week of July, has been increased by 17.1 percent. This time the winner of the men’s and women’s singles will get prize money of over Rs 24.5 crore (US$3 million). Till now the winner used to get prize money of Rs 19.25 crore. In this sense, the prize money of the single winner has been increased by 11 percent.
The total prize money of the tournament is Rs 463 crore (US$56.5 million). The organizers say that their effort was to increase the prize money of the players who were eliminated in the first round. Now the player who lost in the first round will get an amount of Rs 57 lakh.
