Tuesday (July 11) saw two major upsets at the Wimbledon Open. World number one women’s player and top seed Inga Swiatek of Poland is out. At the same time, America’s fourth seed Jessica Pegula has also faced defeat. Swiatek was defeated by Elina Svitolina of Ukraine. Whereas, Pegula was ousted by Marketa Vondrousova of Czech Republic.
Ukraine’s Svitolina, who returned to professional tennis in April after becoming a mother in October last year, defeated Sviatek to enter the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the second time. Svitolina, the wife of French tennis star Gael Monfils, received a wild card entry to play at Wimbledon. He defeated Iga 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2.

Vondrousova in Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time
On the other hand, America’s Jessica Pegula’s dream of reaching the semi-finals of Grand Slam could not be fulfilled again. She could not overcome the challenge of Vondrousova. Marketa, who made it to the final of the 2019 French Open, defeated Pegula 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the first time.

Pegul has not yet reached the semi-finals of the Grand Slam
Pegula has reached the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slams from 2022 to 2023, Australian, French, Wimbledon and US Open. She wanted to make it to the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time. In five of the last 10 tournaments, he also made it to the quarter-finals, but once again his journey could not go beyond the last-8.
Marketa dominated the match with her strong serve. She served seven aces in the entire match, while 67 percent of her points came on the first serve.
