Mumbai, the city of dreams, faces yearning to set foot in the film industry, the dark world behind the glittering life, and the helplessness of junior artists; Tiku Weds Sheru has it all, which if taken seriously and with depth can prove to be a great film. Especially when the producer of the film is a heroine like Kangana Ranaut, who came from outside and made a big name in the film industry.
Tiku Weds Sheru is the story of two people who want to enter films “anyhow”. They are just looking for an opportunity. The story begins with the life of Sheru (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), one of the hundreds of artistes trying to survive the hustle and bustle of the Mumbai film industry. Acting and dancing behind the big stars on the sets, Sheru secretly speaks the dialogues of the lead hero. The dream with which he came from Bhopal to Mumbai is still alive somewhere inside him. Apart from this, he also does the business of supplying drugs and girls..or just say that he is trapped in it. Meanwhile, he gets married to Tiku (Avneet Kaur), who aspires to be a ‘superstar’. Now the city of Mumbai and the glittering world of the film industry, what upheavals it brings in their lives and whether their dreams come true or not.. the whole story revolves around this.
To be honest, watching the entire film, one feels that I wish the writer-director could have seen the hidden potential in both the characters. But a strong idea has been turned into a weak screenplay. The writing and direction of the film is very weak. The comedy scenes don’t elicit laughs, the emotional scenes won’t get you emotional, and the sarcasm is pretty average. The film starts out as a story of two misfits finding perfection in each other, but then it turns into a film mafia and personal struggle. There is no depth in the story and characters here.
Talking of acting, Nawaz is sincere in his performance, but it will not be counted among his best works. Somehow he manages to make this weakly written character average. He has tried to strengthen some scenes with his gestures, but obviously the villain is the story here. Nawaz has been seen opposite Avneet Kaur, who made her Bollywood debut with this film. Her pairing with Nawaz may seem awkward, but Avneet impresses with her performance. The director has inserted several scenes in Avneet’s part where she gets a chance to showcase her acting prowess and she has been successful.
Overall, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur starrer Tiku Weds Sheru is an average movie on Amazon Prime Video. The setting of the film is unique, but the story is very dull. 2 stars to Tiku Weds Sheru from FilmBT.
