Spain’s young tennis player Carlos Alcaraz returned to the top spot in the ATP rankings. As per the latest rankings of the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP), Alcarez is at the top of the table with 6815 points. Alcarez needed just one match at last week’s Italian Open to return to No. 1. He reached the third round of the tournament where he was defeated by Fabian Marozan of Hungary.
In the absence of compatriot and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, the 20-year-old Alcarez will be the top seed at the French Open. Daniil Medvedev has overtaken Novak Djokovic in the world rankings after defeating Holger Roone in the final of the Italian Open. Djokovic, who lost to Rouen in the quarterfinals, dropped to third.
India’s Rohan Bopanna has returned to the top 10 after seven years in the men’s doubles rankings. Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden had lost in the second round in Rome, but the opening round losses of defending champions Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic saw the Indian move up two places. In the singles rankings, Sumit Nagal (256) is the only Indian inside the top 300.
