One of the best scenes in “Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai” is when Solanki (Manoj Bajpayee) tries to convince the victim girl on the terrace to fight against his opponents. He says that now is not the time to hide your face behind the dupatta, rather it is the time to tie it tightly around your waist and fight like Maa Kali.

Inspired by real-life events, it is the story of a sessions court lawyer in Jodhpur who leads a five-year-long battle to get justice for a minor girl who was sexually assaulted by a powerful Baba. The story of ‘Banda’ is inspired by the case of Asaram Bapu. In the film, Manoj Bajpayee plays advocate PC Solanki, who fearlessly brought justice to a 16-year-old girl.

Story

Since we all know many episodes related to this incident, the story will sound familiar. But the director has kept the screenplay so tight that the film doesn’t let go of your attention for a second. The story of the film begins in the year 2013, when a minor girl files a rape case against the country’s well-known baba (Surya Mohan Kulshrestha). The matter reaches the court where Sharma ji (Vipin Sharma) is on one side to save Baba and PC Solanki (Manoj Bajpayee) on the other. When the baba with crores of followers has to step into the dock, you know this courtroom drama is going to be not just a battle of wits, but also fierce and violent. PC Solanki fights the case against Baba under the POCSO Act. Meanwhile, several witnesses are murdered, Solanki is tried to be killed and threatened. But he fights this case for 5 years to get justice for the victim.. and finally Baba is sentenced to life imprisonment.

director and technical side

The onus is on the writer to keep a film like “Sirf Ek Banda Kofi Hai” effective for two hours. Deepak Kingrani has done a great job in this matter. He has kept the dialogues of the film very strong, be it inside or outside the court. The special thing is that the film is based on a subject like rape, but the writer-director duo has shown it with utmost sensitivity. There is no over-the-top drama anywhere in the film. Nor has there been an attempt to sensationalize the crime in any way. Sameer Kotian’s editing is tight, which keeps the film gripping till the end. Some scenes in the film are emotional while the climax scene will give you goosebumps.

acting

The strong side of this film is the performance. PC Solanki is a simple man, in whose character casting Manoj Bajpayee was the best decision of the director. Starting the scooter in the morning and going to the court, Manoj Bajpayee connects you directly with the character. He has given more than one performance in his career.. and this film has also been included in that list. He looks confident in one scene, scared in another, emotional one moment, angry in another. Manoj Bajpayee is an expert in capturing the nuances of the character. The real names of the veteran lawyers in the Asaram case have not been taken in the film, but characters inspired by Ram Jethmalani, Subramanian Swamy and Salman Khurshid have been shown. Vipin Sharma is excellent in his character as the defense lawyer. At the same time, Surya Mohan Kulshrestha has also done a good job in the character of Baba. The minor girl is played by Adrija Roy, who has got some powerful emotional scenes and has done justice to the character.
