Millet Benefits for Weight Loss: Rich in protein, fiber, B vitamins and minerals like iron, millets are a gluten-free superfood that can help control diabetes. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and triticale. Consuming millet is claimed to improve health, reduce weight and increase energy. Jowar, bajra and ragi are all types of millet, if you are also planning to include millet in your diet, then here you should know about the benefits of eating millet to the body.

Ragi

Ragi is a warm millet, which means it should be eaten during the winter season. Ragi is rich in calcium, proteins and amino acids. A good alternative to rice, it can be easily cooked into porridge. If you are not used to eating millets, then ragi is a mild millet to introduce in your diet and then you can gradually start eating other varieties of millets as well.

High tide

Jowar can be consumed throughout the year. It is rich in protein, iron, fiber and helps in keeping bad cholesterol at bay. Jowar can be used in place of wheat rotis. Including it in your diet can help promote weight loss and enhance your gut and heart health.

Millet

Like ragi, bajra is also a warming millet and should be consumed during winters. However, it can be mixed with cooling agents to prepare summer drinks. For example, bajra flour can be mixed with buttermilk to make a refreshing summer drink. Like other millets, eating millets regularly helps reduce weight, improve diabetes, as well as provide healthy hair, nails and skin.

how to eat millet

Do not increase your millet intake immediately as it may lead to digestive problems. Include them in your diet slowly and to avoid any digestive issues, soak millets before using them in recipes. Millets must be soaked and germinated before eating, otherwise the phytic acid present in them can reduce the absorption of other nutrients. People with hypothyroidism should avoid consuming millets as they contain goitrogens which can interfere with the absorption of iodine. The cooking process can reduce the amount of goitrogens, however, it does not completely negate it. Jowar, bajra and ragi can be used in place of wheat in making rotis, biscuits and cakes.
