Bad news emerged for India in the World Tour Finals. India’s star shuttler HS Prannoy lost. Prannoy suffered a loss to Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in his first group match of the World Tour Finals badminton tournament, which began on Wednesday. The world number 12 Indian made a comeback in the second game after losing the first game. However, he lost to Kodai 11-21, 21-9, 17-21 in an hour-long battle.
This is Prannoy’s second straight defeat against Kodoi. Earlier, he had also lost to Kodai at the Singapore Open in July this year. “I was in control for most part of the game but after 15-15 in the third game, I made some mistakes,” Prannoy said. I should have been patient here. Prannoy’s next group encounter will be against Lu Guang Zhu of China. Prannoy had lost to Zhu at the French Open earlier this year.
Prannoy was part of the men’s team that created history by winning the Thomas Cup for India this year. He did brilliantly in that tournament. Recently, he was also awarded the Arjuna Award by President Draupadi Murmu.
