Armenia Azerbaijan Conflict: On one hand the world is witnessing the war between Ukraine and Russia, on the other hand war has also broken out between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that at least 49 Armenian soldiers were killed in the Azerbaijan border conflict.
Nikol Pashinyan told parliament that Azerbaijani forces attacked about half a dozen points, reported Interfax news agency. Let us tell you that the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has been going on for decades over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The prime minister said the intensity of fighting had reduced after heavy shelling that began overnight from Azerbaijan. Earlier on Tuesday, Armenia appealed to world leaders for help, saying that Azerbaijan’s forces were trying to advance in its territory. Azerbaijan’s defense ministry said its forces were responding to Armenian provocations and denied claims that they were destroying civilian infrastructure.
6,500 people died in 2020
Six weeks of fighting in 2020 killed more than 6,500 people. Russia ended this war. Under the agreement, Armenia ceded territory it had controlled for decades, and Moscow deployed some 2,000 Russian peacekeepers to oversee the delicate conflict.
Ethnic Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh first broke away from Azerbaijan when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. The ensuing conflict took the lives of about 30,000 people.
