How to apply for a passport online in India

You have to visit Passport Seva Kendra or Regional Passport Office within 90 days of applying for passport through online medium.
First of all go to Passport Seva portal and Register Now Click the link.
Now fill your correct information in the form and select the passport office you want to visit.
After filling the details, you have to type Captcha characters and then tap on Register button.
Now login to the Passport Seva Portal with your registered login ID.
Now click on the link of Apply for Fresh Passport / Re-issue of Passport etc. It is worth noting here that only those candidates can apply for fresh passport who did not have an Indian passport before. If you had a passport earlier, you can apply for a passport under the Reissue category.
Now fill the required information in the form and then click on submit button.
After this you have to click on Pay and Schedule Appointment link. You will then be able to schedule your appointment for the Passport Office. You will have to pay for the appointment through online mode only.
Now click on the Print Application Receipt link and take a print out of the Application Receipt.
You will also receive an SMS with appointment details.
Now you just have to go to the nearest Passport Seva Kendra and Regional Passport Office. It is not necessary that you carry the receipt of the application with you, you can also show the SMS of the appointment at the Passport Office.
