Wrestlers from Haryana dominated the first day of the trials for the Indian wrestling team, which is being held for the first time without BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is surrounded by allegations of sexual harassment. Trials were held in Patiala under the leadership of ad hoc committee member Olympian shooter Suma Shirur and in Sonepat under the leadership of IOA Executive Committee member Bhupender Singh Bajwa. In Patiala, 217 wrestlers were to participate, but 94 wrestlers in Greco Roman and 89 in girls landed. In Sonipat, 170 wrestlers participated instead of 211. It was mandatory to have a passport to appear in the trial, because the selected wrestlers have to send their entries on May 20 only, in which passport is necessary.

Two wrestlers from Maharashtra and one from Punjab were also selected.

Among the wrestlers selected in Under-17 freestyle, Rupesh (Haryana, 48), Tushar (Haryana, 60), Narendra (Haryana, 71), among the wrestlers selected in Under-17 Greco Roman, Siddhanth (Maharashtra, 48), Varun (Haryana, 60), Sohamraj (Maharashtra, 71).
