For the first time, the Ad-hoc Committee handling the Wrestling Federation in place of former President of Wrestling Federation of India and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh presented the Annual Calendar of Wrestling Preparations and Competitions (ACTC) to the Sports Ministry. On the recommendation of an ad-hoc committee headed by Bhupender Singh Bajwa for the preparations of male and female wrestlers for the Hangzhou Asian Games and foreign competitions, the ministry has sanctioned an amount of about Rs 13 crore. The committee has decided to send wrestlers abroad for about a month long preparation before the Asian Games. Wrestlers can be sent to Hungary for preparations.

Wrestlers will go to Hungary to play tournament in July

Wrestling preparations have come to a standstill since January this year after Brij Bhushan was accused of sexual harassment by women wrestlers. The ad-hoc committee held trials for the U-17 and U-23 Asian Championships after taking over at the beginning of the month. Now he has drawn the blueprint for the preparations of the wrestlers till the Asian Games. The men’s and women’s teams will be sent to the fourth ranking tournament to be held in Budapest (Hungary) from July 13 to 16 ahead of the Asian Games. After this the team will be sent to Hungary for preparations. From there the team will go on to play in the Olympic Qualifiers World Championships. After this the team will go to play in the Asian Games.

Preparatory camp will start from July 1

Trials will be held in the month of June to select the age group and senior level team. The selection trials for the senior team for the Asian Games and World Championships are to be held from June 20 to 25. The venue of the trial has not been decided yet. After the team is selected, a preparation camp for men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s team will be organized from July 1. The men’s camp is likely to be held in Sonepat. The women’s place is yet to be selected.

Ravi, Deepak, Sarita, Sonam will go to Bishkek on 30th

Tokyo Olympics silver-medallist Ravi Kumar (61), Deepak Punia (86), Sarita Mor (59) and Sonam Malik (62) will leave for the third ranking tournament on May 30. 30 wrestlers will play in this championship to be held from June 1 to 4. He will also be accompanied by a 16-member support team of coaches. There are 11 wrestlers in the men’s freestyle team, nine in the women’s and 10 in the Greco-Roman team. This team is going to play without any preparations. Due to the closed activities of the wrestling association, their preparation camp could not be organized. The Sports Ministry has sanctioned an amount of Rs 82 lakh for this tour.
