The wrestlers sitting on the dharna have not termed the Supreme Court’s decision as a setback for them. The wrestlers made it clear on Thursday that their strike would continue. Their demand is still the same that till the arrest of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, they will continue to protest at Jantar Mantar. If they do not get justice from anywhere, they will return their Olympic, Asian Games medals and awards to the government. Wrestlers said that after the decision of the Supreme Court, they will decide the future course of action after consulting their seniors.
All options open before us: Vinesh
On Thursday itself, the Supreme Court gave its decision to close the hearing of the petition filed by the wrestlers. The top court in its order said that he had filed a petition for registration of FIR, which has been completed. Now there is no further hearing in this matter. Sakshi Malik said that she respects the decision of the apex court. The court did what could be done in this case. Vinesh Phogat said that all options are open before him. We are taking opinion from seniors whether we should approach the lower court or approach the High Court. Even after this Delhi Police shows laxity, then they have the option of going back to the Supreme Court after the High Court.
No time limit has been fixed for returning the medal.
Earlier, after the late night skirmish on behalf of the Delhi Police, the wrestlers even said that if they do not get justice, they will also return their medals and awards. Bajrang, Sakshi Malik received the country’s fourth highest civilian honor Padma Shri in these awards. Bajrang, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh all three have received Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna, the country’s highest sports honor.
Vinesh and Bajrang have also received Arjuna Award. The wrestlers said that these honors and medals do not mean anything if they are treated like this. It is better that we return them to the government and lead a normal life. On returning the medal, the wrestler said that he will fulfill what he has said. He has not set a time limit for this.
Geeta was stopped from coming to the protest site
The wrestlers also alleged that after a clash with the police in the night, the police took away their generator. Due to which neither fan could be used at the picket site nor mike could be used for the address. While Vinesh’s cousin Geeta Phogat was coming to the protest site to support the wrestlers, but she was stopped on the way. Geeta Phogat told that she has been arrested.
