Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz has created history. He has become the champion of Wimbledon 2023. In the five-set final, World No. 1 Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic of World No. 2 Serbia. 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 defeated by Alcaraz, 20, became the third player from Spain to win Wimbledon. Earlier, Santana won the Wimbledon title in 1966 and Rafael Nadal in 2008 and 2010. After 12 years, a player from Spain has won this Grand Slam.

This is Alcaraz’s second Grand Slam title. Earlier, he has won the US Open title in 2022. Not only this, after 2017 Wimbledon has got a new champion. Djokovic won this title in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. At the same time, this tournament could not be held in 2020 due to Corona. In 2017, Roger Federer of Switzerland became the champion. Earlier on Saturday, 24-year-old Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic won the Wimbledon Women’s Singles title by defeating Ons Zebeur of Tunisia 6-4, 6-4.

  • He is the fifth youngest player to win a second Grand Slam title. In 2022, Alcaraz won the US Open.
  • Alcaraz is the second youngest player to beat Djokovic in a Grand Slam tournament.

Djokovic won hearts despite the defeat

  • Djokovic won 45 consecutive matches on Wimbledon’s Center Court. This is the longest winning streak by a player since the establishment of Center Court in 1922.
  • Djokovic has won 34 consecutive matches at Wimbledon. This is the third most wins by a player in the Open Era.
  • Djokovic won 27 consecutive major matches (Grand Slam). This is the third longest winning streak in the Open Era.
