Cervical Cancer Risk Factors: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. That’s why some people also have a misconception that breast cancer only happens to women. Although it is not so because breast cancer also occurs in men. But the cases of breast cancer are less common in men as compared to women. In the report of the last few years, another shocking revelation has been revealed, after breast cancer, another cancer that is occurring most rapidly in women has been caught, this is cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer occurs on the cervix. Cervix is the bottom part of the uterus and it is also called the mouth of the uterus. The statistics of cervical cancer in India are frightening. According to Dr. Meenu Walia, Senior Director, Medical Oncology Department, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Patpar Ganj, the cases of cervical cancer are increasing rapidly in our country and the situation is very serious. Almost every 47 minutes a woman is diagnosed with cervical cancer and almost every 8 minutes a woman dies due to cervical cancer.
Surprising revelation came out in the studies
Dr. Walia says that in the studies conducted on this subject in the last few years, there have been shocking and worrying revelations that young women under the age of 30 are rapidly falling prey to cervical cancer. However, till the last few years, its danger used to be after the age of 30. But now its cases are being seen in Young Girls in Early Thirties.
Why does cervical cancer happen?
Cancer may be of any kind, the main reason for this is the continuous growth of some cells in an uncontrolled manner. But the main cause of cervical cancer is a virus called Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a group of more than 200 viruses. Out of these 14 viruses are such that they can cause different types of cancer. For example, anal i.e. anus cancer, head tumor or neck cancer.
Based on the data obtained in the research, it can be said that about 80 percent of women are affected by HVP in their lifetime and this virus disappears on its own without treatment after living in the body for about 30 years. But when this virus remains in the cells for a long time in the body, then it becomes the cause of cervical cancer.
How does the HVP virus spread?
HVP virus is a sexually transmitted virus. That is, this virus spreads during unprotected sex. Sexual activities are also being considered as a major reason for the increase in cervical cancer cases among young women and women under 30 years of age. Being sexually active at a young age, having sexual relations with more than one person, not using contraceptives are some of the reasons that are causing the virus to spread rapidly. The special thing is that HVP virus can be avoided through vaccination and also from cervical cancer. The vaccine that protects against cervical cancer is given to girls between the ages of 9 and 26.
