This ban has been imposed on the demand of Assam Wrestling Association. On Wednesday (June 21), the Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) ad-hoc committee had extended the elections to the Wrestling Federation of India by five days. Earlier these elections were to be held on July 6, which was changed by the Ad-hoc Committee to July 11, but now these elections will not be held on July 11 as well.

The ad-hoc committee has fixed June 25 as the last date for sending names for the voter list, while the elections for the selection of the new governing body are to be held on July 11. The petitioner submitted that the election process should be stopped until his organization is recognized by the WFI and is able to nominate its representative to the electoral roll.
The court directed the respondents WFI Ad-hoc Committee and the Sports Ministry not to proceed with the process of election of the WFI Executive Committee till the next date of hearing. The next date of hearing has been fixed for July 17.
