China has not issued visas to three players from Arunachal Pradesh going to China to participate in the World Universiade Games. All these three players belong to Wushu and are affiliated to National Defense University, Gujarat. These three players along with an eight-member team went to the Chinese Visa Center in Delhi on Monday to get their biometrics done. Visas were issued to the entire team, but biometrics of these three players were refused. The Indian Wushu Federation and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) have requested the Chinese Embassy to grant visas to the three players.

Visa stopped only for Arunachal players

The World Universiade Games are being played in the Chinese city of Chengdu from July 28 to August 8, in which a large number of Indian contingents are going to participate. The team is to leave for Chengdu on 26 August. All the players have got their visas, but the visas of Onilu Tega, Mapyang Lamgu and Neyman Wangshu belonging to Arunachal Pradesh have been put on hold.

AIU requested to issue visa

According to Wushu team manager Dr. Gulab Singh and coach Rahul Chaudhary, when the turn of biometrics of these three Arunachal Pradesh players came, the Chinese Visa Center refused it. None of his documents were taken. He was told that he would have to get approval from the Chinese Embassy regarding these three players. AIU has written a letter to the Chinese Embassy requesting that the visas of these players be issued at the earliest.

Stapled visas have already been issued to Arunachal players

The issue of visas to players from Arunachal Pradesh by China has been problematic in the past as well. Earlier, China has been issuing stapled visas to several players from Arunachal Pradesh. The Government of India does not approve stapled visas of China. 10 to 12 years ago, the Indian team was going to China to play the Junior Asian Weightlifting Championship, in which two lifters were from Arunachal Pradesh, who were given stapled visas by China. Both these players were turned back from the Delhi airport due to having stapled visas.
