Triple jumper Praveen Chitrawal created a national record by achieving the qualifying standard for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Cuba, while Avinash Sable and Parul Chowdhary won the men’s and women’s 5000 meters respectively in the ongoing track event in the US. Made a national record in the race. The 21-year-old Chitrawal topped the ‘V Prueba de Confrontacion competition’ in Havana, Cuba with a jump of 17.37m. He improved Ranjit Maheshwari’s national record of 17.30m set in 2016 in the World Athletics ‘F’ category event.
The 21-year-old Chitrawal also breached the qualifying standard of 17.20m for the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships. His earlier personal best was 17.18m which he had achieved while winning the gold medal at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Chennai last year. His effort of 17.37m is the second longest jump by an athlete without the aid of wind in the current season. Chitravala is currently training in Cuba under the supervision of coach Yoandri Betanjos.
