Malaysia Masters title-winning HS Prannoy and former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Parupalli Kashyap advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Taipei Open Badminton Super 300 tournament. Tanya Hemant in women’s singles and Rohan Kapoor-N Sikki Reddy in mixed doubles have also made it to the last-16.
Pranay had to sweat only for 26 minutes
Third seed in the tournament and world No. 9 Prannoy had to sweat it out in just 26 minutes to seal the win in the first round. She defeated local shuttler Lin Yu Sin in straight games 21-11, 21-10. He will face Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the last-16. Kashyap defeated Germany’s Samuel Siao 21-15, 21-16. In the next round, she will face Su Li Yang of Chinese Taipei.
Tanya will face Tai Tzu
Mithun Manjunath of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy went down 18-21, 21-14, 16-21 to second seed and local shuttler Chen Chou Tien in a three-game struggle. The match lasted one hour and 11 minutes. Tanya defeated Hungary’s Agnus Korosi 21-7, 21-17 but will next face title contender top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.
The pair of Rohan and Sikki defeated their own partners Navneet Bocca and Priya 21-14, 21-17. On the other hand, S Shankar Muthuswamy, Kiran George, Mairaba Mesnam, Satish Kumar, Rutvika Shivani Gade, Aakarshi Kashyap had to face defeat in the first round.
