45-year-old Zorawar Singh Sandhu (Trap) for the Asian Games and World Championships and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) acting president Randhir Singh’s daughter Rajeshwari Kumari (Trap) have made it to the shotgun shooting team . While Paris Olympics quota place Bhavnish Mendiratta, Commonwealth Games silver medalist, BJP MLA Shreyashi Singh and veteran skeet shooter Meraj Ahmed Khan could not make it to the team. In women’s skeet, Ganemat Sekhon and Darsha Rathore, who recently won silver for the first time at the World Cup, have made it to the team.
Manavjeet also could not make a place in the team
Bhavnish Mendiratta, who finished fifth in the World Cup in May, will not play in the Asian Games despite winning the Olympic quota. According to the selection policy of the Shooting Association of India (NRAI), he is ranked four, while the top three shooters are given a place in the team. Similarly Shreyashi’s ranking is seventh. Experienced shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu is also ranked fifth, due to which he could not make it to the team.
Rajeshwari won the selection trial in Bhopal
Trap shooter Zorawar Singh Sandhu is the oldest shooter in the team. He has so far won one silver and one bronze in the World Cup. Skeet shooter Rajeshwari Kumari made it to the team by topping the selection trials held recently in Bhopal. With this, they are going to become a unique pair of father and daughter to play in the Asian Games.
