Shooters Shubham Bisla and Sanyam made golden starts in the men’s and women’s sections respectively at the ongoing International Shooting Federation (ISSF) World Junior Championships in Chongwan, Korea. Indian shooters won gold medals in 10m air pistol.
This is Shubham’s first gold medal at the junior level, while Sanyam won the Junior World Cup in Suhal last month. On the first day of the competition, India won both the gold medals at stake. Shubham shot 244.6 in the air pistol final to leave China behind Bu Shuiheng (244.6).
Korea’s Kim Kanghyun won the bronze medal (218.2 points). In qualifying, Shubham shot 578 to finish second while Boo shot 585. Amit Sharma (576) and Sagar Bhargava (575) also managed to finish in the last eight. Amit finished fifth and Sagar fourth in the finals.
Sanyam shot 242.2 points to beat Korea’s O Yi Jin (239.4 points) in the women’s section. Sanyam shot 576 in the qualification. She finished fifth in the qualification while Urva Chowdhary finished sixth with the same score. In the final, Urva finished fourth with 198.1 to miss out on a medal by a close margin.
