Former junior world champion Hriday Hazarika and Haryana’s Nancy won silver medals in the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle events of the ongoing Senior Shooting World Cup here. Assam shooter Hazarika performed brilliantly in the final. His minimum score in 24 shots was 10.1. Similarly, Nancy’s minimum score in the final was 10.2.
Hriday was defeated by Jalan Peckler of Hungary who scored 252.4 against the Indian shooter’s 251.9. Nancy, on the other hand, had a 0.1 lead against China’s Han Jiayu going into the last two shots of the final but the finish could not get better. The Chinese shooter shot 254.0 while Nancy could only manage 253.3.
Now the World Cup will continue for two more days. There is a tough competition going on between India and China. China has two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in its medal tally while India has one gold, two silver and one bronze.
Hriday admitted that Hungarian shooter Jalan was in better form. Jalan had won the gold medal in the 10m air rifle at the last World Cup in Lima. He finished second in qualifying with a score of 636.2. The bronze medal was won by Sheng Lihao of China, who had topped the qualifying with 637.9. The Hearts finished seventh with a 630.3. In the women’s section, Nancy also qualified in seventh place with a score of 631.6.
