Panjab University, Chandigarh captured both the gold medals at stake in the shooting events of the Khelo India University Games on Wednesday. Panjab University Olympian Manu Bhaker and international shooter Sarabjot Singh won gold in the mixed event of 10m air pistol. And Parinaj Dhaliwal and Prabh Pratap Singh Chahal, a pair from the same university, won gold in the mixed skeet event.
Parinaj and Prabh Pratap won gold after struggle
Jakarta Asian Games medalist Manu Bhaker and Baku World Cup medalist Sarabjot beat Delhi University’s Varun Dubey and Vibhuti Bhatia 16-2 with ease in the final to win the gold. The pair of Amanpreet Singh and Pradeep Kaur Sidhu of Punjabi University Patiala won bronze by defeating Harshdeep and Shikha Narwal of MDU Rohtak 16-14. In skeet, PU, Chandigarh’s Parinaj Dhaliwal and Prabh Pratap pair won gold by defeating Punjabi University’s Asees Chinna and Sukhbir Harika 31-29. Arjun Thakur and Shivani of GNDU, Amritsar won the bronze by defeating their compatriots Gurnihal and Kajal Singh 32-22.
Wrestler Sagar won gold in 79 weight category
In Varanasi, Sagar Jaglan of Kurukshetra University, a former world cadet champion and bronze medalist in the Under-20 World Championships, won the gold medal in the 79 weight category. Sagar, who was among the toppers, defeated Chandra Mohan of Chaudhary Devi Lal University in the final. Sagar had won gold in the 80 weight category at the World Cadet in 2021. Sagar said after the win that he used to play in the 74 weight category, but after getting injured his weight increased, due to which he came in the 79 weight category. Now he will try to go back to the 74 weight category.
