The Indian women’s hockey team has suffered a 2-4 defeat in the first match of the Australia tour. The Indian team has to play a three-match series. In the first quarter, Australia, the world’s number three team, scored two goals within six minutes. Aisling scored in the 21st minute and Maddy scored in the 27th minute.
In the third quarter, Ellis’ 32nd and Courtney’s 35th goal increased the lead to 4–0. Sangeeta Kumari (29th minute) and Sharmila Devi (40th minute) scored for the world number eight Indian team. The second match of the series will be played on Saturday. After the three-match series, the Indian team will play two matches against Australia A.
