Women’s football is growing in popularity in England, but this is the first time in English football that a woman has been given the responsibility of head coach of a professional men’s club. English Fourth Division club Forest Green Rovers have appointed Hana Dingley as head coach of their team.
Hana was already in charge of the club’s academy and was given the responsibility of caretaker coach following the departure of coach Duncan Ferguson. Dale Vince, chairman of Forest Green, said: “It might be talking about men’s football, but we have appointed on merit. We are making a new beginning and Hana will be the first female head coach in English football. Hana says she is very excited about this next step in her career.
England is the European champion in women’s football and the FA Cup final in May attracted over 77,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium.
