India’s Geoffrey Emmanuel finished his first race in the first round of the FIM World Championship Junior GP at the famous Circuit do Estoril, despite a bike accident in the qualifying session. The 18-year-old Chennai-born Geoffrey is the first and only Indian to compete in the Junior GP.

Geoffrey’s bike crashed in the qualifying session, due to which he was unable to record any time. His time in the practice session, however, allowed him to compete in the main race. He started from last position among 29 bikers and finished 22nd. Geoffrey started well, despite only having 35 minutes of track time and also carrying an injury. At one point he had even reached the 19th position. He started 2018 on his own bike in the practice session, until the new engine arrived for the session. The second round of the championship, which is the junior category race of the FIM, will be held in Valencia, Spain on May 20-21.
