Kenya’s Faith Kipyogen improved the women’s mile record by five seconds at the Diamond League. He created the world record for the third time in the last two months. The 29-year-old Faith clocked 4:7.64, breaking the previous record (4:12.33) held by Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands. Last month, he had produced record-breaking performances in the 1500m and 5000m in Florence and Paris.
Kipyogen, a two-time Olympic 1500m champion, said it was a very emotional moment and a blessing. This doesn’t happen every time you run. I enjoyed this race. I wanted to set a world record. Thanks to God It’s all wonderful. Ireland’s Sierra Maginn (4:14.08) finished second.
