The Indian Army event is going to provide a great platform to budding badminton players from the North East. From here players will be born who will make India proud in the country and the world. With this objective, the Indian Army on Saturday organized a ‘Trophy Unveiling Ceremony’ ceremony for the first edition of the ‘Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament’ at the Rangghar Auditorium in Dibrugarh, Assam.
Defense spokesperson Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat said that Assam’s Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Minister Bimal Bora was specially present on the occasion. The rolling trophy was unveiled in the presence of dignitaries, former sportspersons, NCC cadets, college students and school children. This calendar event is covering 35 districts of Assam with a view to cover entire North-East in future.
He informed that the prestigious tournament is recognized by the Assam Badminton Association (ABA) and will be an annual event. The tournament will provide an effective launch pad to many local budding badminton players who will go on to represent the state and the nation in times to come. The underlying theme of the tournament- ‘The strength in diversity, unleashing the champion within’, will strengthen the social fabric through sports. The much-awaited tournament will be played from June 19-22 in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Digboi.
