There was a big upset on Sunday in the trials of the Asian Games. Olympic silver medalist veteran wrestler Ravi Dahiya’s dream of going to the upcoming Asian Games has been shattered. Ravi was defeated by Atish Todkar in the 57kg category. Aatish created a stir at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium by defeating a top Indian wrestler. Ravi Dahiya was recently involved in the demonstration of wrestlers against the exiled President of Wrestling Federation of India Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and other coaches.

Dahiya, fondly called ‘The Machine’ for his tremendous skill and stamina, would not have expected this kind of resistance from Todkar, who hails from Maharashtra. Those who have seen Dahiya wrestle know that even taking two points from Dahiya is a big task for Indian wrestlers. On Sunday, Aatish Todkar not only scored points with some brilliant and classy moves.

Dahiya did not compete this year due to injury

Ravi Dahiya has not competed this year after suffering ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) and MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament) injuries in his right knee. He had entered the trial with the hope of victory, but had to face defeat.

Ravi is yet to win a medal in the Asian Games

Ravi had captured the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics. He got a bronze medal in the 2019 World Championships. He was successful in winning gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Ravi is yet to win a medal in the Asian Games. His dream will not be fulfilled this time.
