Shotput athlete Karanvir Singh has failed an out-of-competition dope test and has been dropped from the Indian team for next week’s Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok. Karanvir Singh, who trains at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala, was earlier named in the 54-member Indian squad for the championship to be held from July 12 to 16.
Athletics Federation of India President Adil Sumariwala has confirmed Karanveer’s failure in the dope test. The date of collection of his dope test sample and which banned substance was found in his sample is not yet known.
The 25-year-old Karanvir had won a bronze medal at the Federation Cup in May with a throw of 19.05m. In June, he finished second behind winner Tejinder Pal Singh Toor in the National Inter-State Championships with a throw of 19.78m.
