For the Asian Games, Mirabai Chanu will not compete in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship to be held in Greater Noida. Mira, a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, has a medal in every championship except the Asiad. This is the reason that this time she does not want to leave any stone unturned for the Asian Games, due to which she has decided not to play in the Commonwealth Championship to be held at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida from July 12 to 16.
it was not worth the risk
Meera is currently undergoing rehabilitation in St. Louis (USA) with coach Vijay Sharma under the tutelage of Dr. Anthony Hershig. He again had the problem of back pain in Shilaru (Himachal Pradesh). Sahdev Yadav, general secretary of the Indian Weightlifting Association, said on Thursday that Meera has now recovered and will soon start lifting 90 percent of the weight. He does not want to take any risk for an Asian Games medal, due to which he has decided to send Meera from America to Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) for the World Championship to be held from September 2 and then to the Hangzhou Asian Games. Calling them from America to India and then sending them from here to Riyadh is not good for their training.
Mira is a three-time Commonwealth champion
Mira, a three-time Commonwealth Championships gold medallist, will face tough competition from lifters from China, Thailand and North Korea in the Asian Games.
