Top seed Inga Swiatek of Poland stormed into the third round as third seed Daniil Medvedev made a winning start at Wimbledon for the third day in a row. Eighth seed Maria Sakari of Greece suffered a first round defeat. She was defeated by Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk 0-6, 7-5, 6-2. Swiatek, playing on the center court, defeated Sorribes Tormo 6-2, 6-0.
Tiafoe defeated Wu Yi Bing of China
Medvedev defeated Arthur Ferry of England 7-5, 6-4, 6-3. 21st seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria defeated Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. Tenth seed Frances Tiafoe of America won 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Wu Yi of China. Canada’s Milos Raonic defeated Austria’s Denis Novak 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1 to advance to the second round. Meanwhile, eighth seed Yannick Sinner of Italy advanced to the second round after defeating Argentina’s Juan Cerundolo 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets.
Ostapenko reaches second round
In the women’s section, Russia’s Daria Kastkina easily defeated England’s Jodie Anna Barez 6-0, 6-2 to enter the third round. Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, who won the French Open in 2017, reached the second round by defeating Belgium’s Minien 6-1, 6-2.
Matches of the first round were not completed
