In the SAFF Championship football, the Sunil Chhetri-led Indian team made a great start in the match being played against Kuwait on Tuesday. By half-time, the team has taken a 1-0 lead over Kuwait. Captain Sunil Chhetri scored the 92nd goal of his international career. He gave Team India the lead by scoring a cross from the penalty corner. The match is being played at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
Team India started the match in a brilliant manner and continued the counter attack. Forward Ashiq Kurunian, Chhetri kept Kuwait defenders at bay. Meanwhile, midfielders Mahesh Singh, Jackson Singh, Anirudh Thapa and Lallianzuala Chhangte prevented the ball from entering India’s box and kept Kuwait’s forwards under pressure. Defenders Nikhil Pujari, Sandesh Jhingan, Anwar Ali and Akash Mishra did brilliantly when required.
Team India got the advantage of this a few minutes before half-time, when Chhetri scored. By half-time, India attempted seven shots while Kuwait attempted six. Each team had one shot on target. Talking about possession, India had 56 percent ball possession and Kuwait had 44 percent ball possession. Both teams have committed four fouls each till half-time.
