In a recently revealed report, it has been claimed that by the end of this decade, the shortage of health workers in the whole world may cross the figure of one crore. If this happens, people’s access to mental health treatment may be affected. This report has been released before the 2023 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos. According to this report, telehealth, vaccines and precision medicine (person-centred medicine) have seen rapid growth due to the increase in expenditure on health care. However, businesses and policy makers should try to deal with work-related stress and anxiety and ensure people have access to health facilities.
India’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is also mentioned in this report. This mission was started by the Government of India. It has been said in the report that the concept of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is related to the digitization of the entire healthcare sector of the country. This is the reason why its success depends on its adoption by the stakeholders. According to this, the adoption of ABDM has been a big challenge so far and it has been adopted in a limited way due to the problems of data exchange, privacy and lack of internet connectivity and digital infrastructure.
Looking for opportunities to change the system
Titled ‘Global Health and Healthcare Strategic Outlook’, the report said that the fastest vaccine development in history has shown that there are many possibilities in public-private partnerships and regulation based on findings. Shyam Bishan, head of health and healthcare at WEF, said that due to the corona epidemic, there has been rapid progress in the development and supply of medicines. However, for the long term, opportunities will have to be found to change the system, so that there is no possibility of the health sector collapsing due to the economic crisis.
Corona increased the burden
WEF said that the corona virus epidemic has put a huge burden on the health care system. Apart from this, there has also been a disruption in the worldwide supply of essential goods. Not only this, more burden has been put on those providing health facilities i.e. healthcare staff. Kashish Malhotra, physician in the Department of Internal Medicine, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, said that violence and stress are major threats. This is also one of the reasons why doctors are considering joining other professions.
