G Sathiyan entered the last-16 of men’s and mixed doubles of the World Table Tennis Championships. He teamed up with Sharath Kamal in men’s doubles and Manika Batra in mixed doubles. However, in singles, the challenge of Sharath Kamal and national champion Sreeja Akula ended in the second round.
Sharath-Sathiyan defeated Benes Majoros of Hungary and Anders Lind of Denmark 11-5, 11-4, 15-13. Sathiyan then teamed up with Manika to beat Brazil’s Erik Joti and Lukakumahara 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 to enter the pre-quarterfinals.
World No. 56 Sharath went down 11-4, 13-11, 11-8, 12-10 to No. 33 Lee Sang-soo of Korea in the second round. Sreeja was defeated by World No. 10 Ying Han of Germany 11-2, 11-4, 11-2, 11-4.
