Its special headline is made from the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC with which the phone has debuted in India. It is based on 4nm technology and is clocked at 3.05GHz. This is a huge upgrade and makes it quite powerful among the flagship smartphones of this segment for 2022.
Vivo X80 It has been launched in two variants. The base model has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and is priced at Rs 54,999. The second variant has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and is priced at Rs 59,999.
Vivo has fitted the new V1+ imaging processor in it which supports the processor related tasks like capturing photos in night mode, speeding up the frames during game play etc. The company says that this smartphone has the largest single chamber vapor cooling system, which is not in any other smartphone in India. On paper, this phone is a top notch experience device and I will test these claims of the company in its full review. After using the phone for a while, I can say that its cooling system works, as the camera app did not close even after the phone body got hot during video recording.
In terms of design, it is similar to the X70 Pro+ that came last year. Basically, the only difference between the two new smartphones from the old one is that the X80 and X80 Pro Periscopic camera is not visible in it. Everything else is the same and appears in the same place. The company has rated the phone IP53, which is not commonly seen in phones of this segment.
The phone has an aluminum alloy frame that is placed between two glass layers. The sides of the phone are curved. The rear panel has fluorite AG glass and has a matte finish, which does not allow fingerprints to fall easily. My unit was in Urban Blue finish, which looks very fresh and different. The overall finish of the phone looks quite premium and even after weighing 206 grams, it does not feel that heavy.
The Vivo X80 flaunts a 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED display but does not come with LTPO technology that is offered on the slightly more expensive X80 Pro. The resolution is FullHD+ and the maximum refresh rate is 120Hz. Its maximum touch sampling rate is 240Hz. I played Call of Duty: Mobile on it, the game ran smooth. For gaming, I will test its new chipset further. The display has Schott’s Xensation Up protection, which is similar to a fingerprint magnet in initial use. The phone has dual stereo speakers which are X70 Pro I was not.
Talking about its camera, Sony’s new 50 megapixel IMX866 sensor has been given in the phone. It has RGBW pixel arrangement and optical image stabilization is also available. Vivo says that it comes with better light sensitivity for photos and videos in low light. I will test it in full review of the phone. The X80 has a 12-megapixel portrait camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide angle camera. OIS is not available in either of these.
Like the Vivo X80 Pro, the X80 features Vivo’s new Zeiss branded video styles. Through this you can shoot video in the cinematic aspect ratio of 2.39:1. Camera panning style for photos is also a new feature. With this you can add motion blur to the background of the photo.
The phone comes with 32 megapixel camera for selfie. It also has a cinematic style feature so that the photo can be taken in a more wide angle. My initial impressions say that its camera system holds great potential. The detail and dynamic range is quite good. I missed the telephoto camera for portrait shots. Details got less in digital zoom but I will save the last comment for full review.
The Vivo X80 packs a 4,500mAh battery that charges up very quickly with an 80W charger. It doesn’t have wireless charging, which is a big omission, as is the case with the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G. Even this feature has been given in Apple iPhone SE (2022), which is also less than them in price.
The company says that it will provide three Android OS updates for the phone and also provide security updates for three years. It is a great thing. The phone runs on Funtouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. The software runs well but many third party apps also come in it.
Vivo X80 is not just a camera-centric phone, but its hardware also has the potential to deliver a good gaming experience. Looks like it’s a great upgrade over the X70 Pro. Apart from being a powerful processor, it also has stereo speakers and IP rating. The phone is quite attractive in terms of competition and it competes with Realme GT 2 Pro and Motorola Edge 30 Pro.
