America released report on religious freedom
The US State Department has released its annual report on religious freedom, highlighting attacks on religious minorities including Muslims and Christians in India.
Citing targeted attacks against Muslims, Christians and other minorities, a US official said it would continue to work with civil society members, courageous journalists and speak directly with its counterparts to resolve these issues.
America worried over the report
Briefing journalists on the report on the condition of anonymity, a senior US official spoke of India’s “huge potential” and said that he was “saddened” by the continuing religious violence. “With regard to these concerns, we are encouraging the government to condemn the violence and hold accountable those making inhuman statements towards religious minorities,” the official said.
This report has come at a time when PM Modi is going on an official visit to America in June. Prior to this, he will have a face-to-face meeting with US President Biden at the G-7 summit in Japan later this week and at the Quad summit in Australia next week.
