UN India event: Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Saturday congratulated India in Hindi on behalf of his country on India’s partnership with the United Nations. Earlier, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India is committed to strengthen its partnership with the United Nations to ensure a brighter future. “We have full faith in the principles and charter of the United Nations. In our eyes, the world today is one family.”

He further said that in the 18th century, India accounted for almost a quarter of the global GDP. By the middle of the 20th century, colonialism ensured that India became one of the poorest countries. “But in the 75th year of independence, India stands proudly before you as the fifth largest economy in the world,” he said.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj said that there is no need to elaborate on the country’s development story as transformative changes are taking place in every sector in the country. “We are proud of our traditions and we are confident in our future,” he said.
