Swiss Open: Lakshya Sen out of Swiss Open, Srikanth and Manjunath win

India’s young shuttler Lakshya Sen crashed out in the first round of the Swiss Open, while compatriot Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the next round, here on Wednesday. Srikanth, the 2021 World Championships silver-medallist, had a hard time getting past China’s Wang Hong Yang 21-16, 15-21, 21-18 and will now take on Hong Kong’s Cheuk Yiu Lee, who is world No. 12, in the second round. Sen went down 18-21, 11-21 to bow out of the men’s singles event. But Mithun Manjunath made it to the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals with a straight games 21-8, 21-17 win over Joran Quekel. In women’s doubles, the pair of Sikki Reddy and Aarti Sara Sunil also bowed out after losing in the first round.

India’s second seeded men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Malaysia’s Jin Yuan Boon and Tien Si Wong 21-15, 21-18 to book a place in the pre-quarterfinals. Earlier, the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand bowed out after losing in the first round.
