Ranil Wickremesinghe Remark Over Economic Crisis: Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is facing a serious economic crisis, has expressed fears that the country may have to face this difficult phase for a year now. Wickremesinghe said in a conference on Friday that to revive the troubled economy, one has to think differently and focus on new areas like logistics and nuclear energy.
Ranil Wickremesinghe said in the conference organized on the topic ‘Give Sri Lanka a new look’ that for the necessary reforms to be done in the country, high taxation will also be needed. He said, “My guess is that for the next six months to one year, that is, till July next year, we will have to face a difficult phase. For revival, Sri Lanka will have to focus on new areas like logistics and nuclear energy.
Ranil Wickremesinghe further said this
Wickremesinghe, who assumed the presidency last month after widespread protests and unrest against the Rajapaksa regime, said, “If you look at the economies of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, you will find that in Colombo, Hambantota and Trincomalee, logistics also play a big role.” Might be possible. Our strategic position is similar.” He said, “We have to adopt measures like taxation on property. Apart from economic revival, it will also have to be done for social security.” Describing the need to enter the nuclear power sector, Wickremesinghe said, “If you have more energy then you can sell it to India. We have to think differently.”
