Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday presented Arjuna Award to two-time World Championship silver medalist Anjum Moudgil and Dronacharya Award to hockey coach Sarpal Singh, Shivani Mirchandani, granddaughter of tennis legend late Naresh Kumar. The award for these three was announced by the Sports Ministry long ago, but due to personal reasons all three did not receive the award from the President. During this, Naresh Kumar also passed away.
Anjum was announced to be given Arjuna Award in 2019, Naresh Kumar in 2020 and Sarpal Singh in 2021. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur presented the Arjuna trophy to Anjum and the Dronacharya award to Sarpal Singh in a simple ceremony. During this, Sports Secretary Sujata Chaturvedi was also present. Naresh Kumar was the captain of the Indian Davis Cup team for a long time. He also reached the pre-quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
