This is the story of the Khaman tribe, which was once the pride of the Rajputana army. But due to caste discrimination, he was first sidelined from the society.. Then the British took him captive by deceit. It is based on a fictional town named Kaza, where the entire Khamaran tribe is taken captive and enslaved by a ruthless imposter Shuddh Singh in the fort and they are severely tortured. But where there is slavery, the one who breaks the chains is also born. Among the Khmerans comes Shamshera .. who becomes the chieftain of the slaves and then becomes the greatest warrior to protect his clan. He fights hard for the freedom and honor of his tribe. And after that his son Balli takes up this responsibility. Balli somehow escapes from Kaza’s fort and builds his army outside. But will he be able to give freedom to the people of his tribe having the army of the British and Inspector Shuddh Singh? The whole story revolves around this.
There is no doubt that this entire film rests on the shoulders of Ranbir Kapoor. Rather, they give the courage to stay on the seat for 2 hours 40 minutes. Ranbir Kapoor has done a good job in both the characters of Shamshera and Balli. While there is seriousness in his characters, on the other hand there is also some innocence in some parts. This is Ranbir’s first action film.. and would like to say that he is very busy in action scenes. But it is surprising that why the director did not give her even a single emotional scene! Everyone knows the beauty with which Ranbir plays emotional scenes, but here he missed. Nothing special on Vaani Kapoor’s part here. She has three songs to her name and no doubt she is a great dancer, but she still needs a little more effort in terms of acting. At the same time, Sanjay Dutt, who is becoming a back to back villain, now seems to repeat his expressions. There is absolutely no novelty in his characters and this is the director’s mistake. Saurabh Shukla, Ronit Roy, Craig Mc Ginley have done a good job in supporting roles.
Karan Malhotra took a risk with a story like Shamshera… where he had to tell the story of the 18th century. Here he got good actors, got the budget.. but if not found then a strong story. The story of the film seems very superficial. When the story is of such a high level, the one thing that works the most is the emotional factor. He is missing in this film. Here you will also not feel any connection with the character or the circumstances. The film runs flat from beginning to end. So, after a while just wait for its climax, which you already know. At the same time, it would not be wrong to say that the story of the film seems to be a slang of many different films and web series.
Technically, the film is good. Cinematographer Anay Goswami has been successful in the unseen world he has tried to portray with Shamshera. The production design of the film should be praised. VFX is also good. Piyush Mishra’s dialogues are average. Many of the dialogues are placed like poetry, but when the story itself is not effective, the bulk of the dialogue seems hollow. Shivakumar V Panikar’s editing could have been a bit tighter, especially in the first half of the film.
