Russia has proposed to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Games on Thursday. Russia’s Sports Minister Oleg Matysin put this proposal in front of all the members in the meeting held in Delhi. The meeting was attended by the heads of all the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Sports ministries and agency officials from Russia, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting.
After Russia’s attack on Ukraine, this country and its players have been thrown out of all international competitions. Along with this, the hosting of all international competitions held here has also been taken away from Russia. After this, Russia plans to start the Shanghai Cooperation Games on the lines of the Commonwealth. This will lead to the return of international level sports competitions in Russia.
After the meeting, Russian Sports Minister Oleg said “We talked to colleagues from SCO member states and discussed hosting the first SCO Games. We proposed to hold these games in Russia. Will talk to who will chair the ministers’ meeting next year. If all the ministers agree then Russia will be ready to host the Games.”
He further said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be strengthened through the Games. The meeting of this organization has taken place for the second time. It is a platform for direct and open communication. Our aim is that sportspersons and big competitions stay away from politics. This is possible only with equality and respect among all nations. I propose to jointly create a political environment for the protection of the rights of sportspersons in this area.
The Sports Minister of Russia said that Russia has the experience of organizing many big sporting events. This will help it to host these games and these games can be organized in any format and level. He invited the officials of all the participating countries to visit the sports events to be held in Russia.
