Top seed Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the BNP Paribas Open. His attempt to enter the tournament to be held in Southern California without corona vaccination failed. The women’s and men’s tennis tournament to be held in Indian Wells will begin on Wednesday.
Organizers say the security unit has rejected Djokovic’s request to play without vaccination. The 22-time Grand Slam champion was recently defeated in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Djokovic got defeated in Dubai Open
Djokovic had recently lost in the final of Dubai Open at the hands of Russia’s Daniil Medvedev. Djokovic’s 15-win streak was broken. Medvedev made it to the final by winning the match against the world number-1 player 6-4, 6-4. There he captured the title by defeating Andrey Rublev of Russia 6-2, 6-2.
Djokovic was expected to go to America
Djokovic will not be able to play in Indian Wells starting on March 8. They have not vaccinated for coronavirus. He hoped that visa exemption would be given in America. However, this did not happen. “I’m still waiting for news from America,” Djokovic said after his loss at the Dubai Open. If I can’t play in America, I will play on clay court. Monte Carlo is probably the next tournament. If so, I will take some time and prepare.”
